Dexagogo

Dexagogo is a reference to Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), the over-diagnosed, cash-cow-for-drug-companies, declared-imaginary-by-some malaise that is sweeping the distracted modern world.

My story with ADD is quite common. After a disastrous beginning with school my son was diagnosed and once I read about it I realised what had been wrong with me my whole life. The 'parent discovery after child diagnosis' scenario is quite common because ADD is genetically inherited.

The first time I took medication for ADD, my wife emailed me at work and asked "How is it?". My response was "My brain rocks!". Nothing can quite describe the feeling realising, after a lifetime of being told and believing your were lazy, stupid, irresponsible or just weird, that you were none of these things at all. And the biggest joy of all, my first experience of clarity. The internal chaos was subdued and I could see, hear and think clearly. Wow.

Dexagogo is a word I made up to describe my brain's new groove fueled by dexamphetamines. I've since move on from medication but I liked the word so I made it the name of my blog.
