More Crazy TV Music Piracy Rantings on A Current Affair
Thursday, March 8, 2007This incredibly confused piece of hand waving was aired on TV tonight on A Current Affair . I couldn't help but laugh at the utter silliness passing for serious journalism here.
First, they had trouble actually identifying the cause of all this damage - illegal downloads, illegal pirated CDs, legal & cheap imported CDs all got vague mentions - complete with the shot of the darkened, shadowy computer user tapping his keys and clicking his mouse.
Next they attempted to quantify the cost of the menace by the highly dubious formula: estimating how many tracks were illegally downloaded (billions) and multiplying this number by the cost of a track on iTunes - the result was billions of dollars.
Then we had Glenn Wheatley make yet another outlandish statement "We're dealing with a generation of kids at the moment that have been brought up to think that music is free." - Music IS free you dolt! We're all allowed to hum and sing anytime we like!
And then, while they were railing on all those evil people downloading tracks for free, depriving artists of money, Sony BMG's Emmanuel Candi says "Piracy creates less opportunities for musicians and composers and more opportunities for crooks to get bigger houses and faster cars."
Hangon, I'm confused... if they are downloading stuff for free, how are the pirates making mega riches to buy their cars?
What a bunch of clowns! Why the hell did I even watch this silly show? There's 25 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

yes, no cares about Music Piracy, it will always stay...
"if they are downloading stuff for free, how are the pirates making mega riches to buy their cars?" - do the math:
100 * 29.95 = $2,995.00
50 * 30.95 = $1,547.50
1000 * 4.45 = $4,450.00
Full amount for this would be $8,992.50
8,992.50 x 2 = $17,985.00 for an entire year!
and if they were selling 150 CD's for $10.00 each = $1,500 + 1,000 cd's for $1.50 = $1,500
which = $3,000.
Next part of the math
$5.00 for a ream of paper x 10 = $50.00
$29.95 for 100 CD-R's with printable label x 10 = $299.50
19.95 x 12 (2 sets per each color) = $239.40
$3000.00 - 239.40 - 299.50 - 50.00 = $2411.00
add this to 17,985.00 = $20,396.00 saved!
times that by 5 years = $101,980.50
ACA is total crap
