Which URLs are on the IE8 Compatibility View List?
Thursday, March 26, 2009I've been hanging out to see what's on the IE8 Compatibility View list. This is the list of sites that will default to IE8 Compatibility View mode, if the user activated that service when IE8 was installed. In IE8, You can access the current list at this URL: res://iecompat.dll/iecompatdata.xml
There seems to be some odd entries in there. For the life of me I can't understand why every variation of google.com is on the list.
There's an MSDN document that explains the process for getting on the list (very vague) and the process for getting off the list (the domain name owner has to sen an email). Of course you can always add that meta tag to your HTML.
